Dr. Lavelle Ford

dr lavelle fordDr. Lavelle Ford was born in Jones, Louisiana in January, 1946. He graduated with honors from Southern University and was commissioned a second lieutenant, Medical Service Corps in 1969. After serving a tour in Vietnam, Dr. Ford enrolled in the School of Dentistry at Meharry Medical College, Nashville, Tennessee, where he earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1976. Upon completion of an internship at Hubbard Hospital, Dr. Ford re-entered the Army as a Captain in the Army Dental Corps. In 1986, he completed a residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Eisenhower Army Medical Center. In 1989, Dr. Ford was board certified as a Diplomate in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

While in the military, Dr. Ford served in a variety of progressive positions: General Dentistry Officer, Fort Benning, Georgia; Chief, General Dentistry, Fort Knox, Kentucky; Chief, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Fort Hood, Texas; Chief, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Frankfurt, Germany; Chief, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Fort Hood, Texas; Contract Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, Fort Hood Texas.

Dr. Ford has received a number of awards and decorations to include: the Legion of Merit; the Meritorious Service Medal; Army Commendation Medal; National Defense Service Ribbon; Vietnam Service Medal; Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; Expert Field Medical Badge. He has also received recognition by professional organizations: Fellow, American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons; Fellow, American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

In 1995, Dr. Ford retired as a Colonel from the U.S. Army and currently owns and operates Central Texas Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Harker Heights, Texas. He volunteers with the Greater Killeen Free Clinic and serves as a member of its Board; he also serves on Killeen ISD’s Site Based Decision Making Committee. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and is affiliated with Metroplex Hospital, Killeen, Texas. Dr. Ford served as a consultant on a number of humanitarian missions traveling to China, the Dominican Republic, Belize and most recently, Haiti. He is a contributor to the Metroplex Hospital Foundation Fund, The First Tee Killeen and other organizations throughout the community.

Dr. Ford is married to the former Roberta Trotter of Clarksville, Tennessee. They have three adult children and eight grandchildren.
