Dr. Zeb F. Poindexter, III

dr zeb poindexterDr. Zeb F. Poindexter III was born to Ruby and Dr. Zeb Poindexter, Jr. on April 16, 1959, at Riverside General Hospital in Houston Texas.

Dr. Poindexter attended L.L. Lockhart Elementary, Johnston Junior High School and Strake Jesuit College Preparatory graduating in 1977. Dr. Poindexter continued on to college and attended Morehouse College (1977), University of Houston (1978), Houston Baptist University (1979) and Texas Southern University (1980). After three years Dr. Poindexter finished his prerequisites for dental school then proceeded to take the Dental Aptitude Test and entered the University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston.

In 1984 Dr. Poindexter attained a Doctorate in Dental Surgery and has since worked as an Associate with the Harris County Hospital District, partnered at Poindexter Dental, Inc., and taught as an Assistant Professor at UT Dental, Founder of Dentistry for the Homebound, staffer at Twelve Oaks Hospital and currently is owner of Poindexter Dental, Inc.

Dr. Poindexter has continued with his professional education and accreditation which lead to obtaining a Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry (1994). He has Fellowships in the Mid America Orthodontic Society (1989), Certificates in Cosmetic/Restorative Dentistry, Endodontic, Periodontics, Prosthodontics, Implantology, Oral Surgery and Sedation Dentistry. Studying domestically and internationally, Dr. Poindexter has recently received awards from Harvard University in Advanced Periodontal Surgery and Advanced Implantology from the Alliance Institute in Korea.

Dr. Poindexter has been published in local and regional periodicals, a guest lecturer and volunteer in community events and he works politically with organized dentistry at the local, State and National levels. The Children’s Health Initiative is in place due in part to his efforts in lobbying President George W. Bush.

The second part of the first African American father and son duo to graduate from U.T. Dental School in Houston, Zeb III or Dr. “P” as he is fondly called has been awarded a Pinnacle (2008) from the Houston Black Chamber of Commerce, and the duo was honored as the Healthcare Heroes (2009) by the Houston Business Journal.

In his free time Dr. Poindexter rides his bike, plays golf and goes fishing. He loves spending time with his wife, Anna, their six children and six grandchildren.
