Dr. Norman Mason

dr norman masonA native of Marshall, Texas, Dr. Mason is a 1966 graduate of the Howard University College of Liberal Arts and a 1970 graduate of the Howard University College of Dentistry. He has practiced general dentistry in Austin, Texas for the past 39 years and is the managing partner in the practice of Drs. White, Mason, & McElveen L.L.P, one of the largest ethnic diverse practices in Texas.

Dr. Mason is the recipient of many awards and honors as a community leader, including the East Austin Humanitarian and the East Austin Living Legend awards. Over the years, he has been an active member of his professional organizations; Gulf State Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, National Dental Association and the American Dental Association. He has participated in numerous civic and community based organization such as the Austin YMCA Board Of Directors; Austin//Travis County Federally Qualified Health Care Centers Board Of Directors, Chair; Austin Academy of Learning Board of Directors, Chair; KAZI Public Radio Station Board Of Directors, Founding member; Texas Title XIX Medicaid Advisory Board for Dentistry; Texas Medical Liability Insurance Board of Directors and the Franklin Bank Board of Directors. In March 2003, Gov. Rick Perry appointed him to a six-year term on the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners.

The close proximity of Dr. Mason’s office to the University of Texas enticed him, early on, to become an active participant in the University community. For three decades he, along with his wife, has served as mentors to young African American student athletes. He has had the good fortune to see most of them excel in life, becoming solid citizens and pillars of the community. He is past president of the Austin Longhorn Club, member of the Longhorn Foundation and with his wife, member of the College of Liberal Arts Foundation Advisory Council.

Dr. Mason is married to LaVonne P. Mason. They have two adult sons and a grandson.
